With optionality comes flexibility – if large publicly traded companies use investment bankers to source their capital – why shouldn’t you? They know that seeing a lot of proposals gives them leverage in negotiations, and ensures they aren’t agreeing to a sub-par deal.
As investment bankers, we create that optionality by staying close to our network, being a valuable source of deals for them, and presenting opportunities to them the way they want to see them. This makes sense for our clients no matter what the new capital is being used for, e.g. acquisitions, shareholder buy-outs, management buy-ins, growth, refinancing, etc.
When we are tasked with executing on an comprehensive acquisition strategy, our clients engage us because we are unrivalled in the country in terms of deal sourcing capabilities. Most other firms focus on delivering due diligence services, not finding and negotiating the right deal.
Underpinning those capabilities is our team of a half dozen origination analysts and associates, whose sole purpose is to keep their finger on the pulse (i.e. the intentions) of potential sellers. They track 34,254 Canadian companies (as of Sep 20, 2019), and can easily access targets in the US and elsewhere through their own research, other advisors in our network, and limited-access mergers and acquisitions marketplaces.

Environics Analytics (“EA”) is a leading North American provider of marketing and analytical services. The company needed financing to support its expansion plans in the US and Canadian markets, and wanted to secure capital from a senior lender that understood EA’s value drivers. FirePower surfaced numerous proposals, then negotiated and improved on the terms and conditions to the benefit of EA.

The FirePower team built a comprehensive target list and crafted a story emphasizing F12’s amazing corporate culture. Of the potential targets, Apps on Tap represented an exciting synergistic addition for F12. With FirePower’s support, F12 acquired Apps on Tap in May, 2018.
